The situation

What we found

  • Maize growers needed to move from selling grain into value-added processing.
  • Unit members had limited understanding of what cluster membership and an SPV structure involved.
  • Members had little exposure to the processing technology available elsewhere in India.
Our response

What we did

  • SPV cluster awareness programmes for unit members.
  • Capacity building through industry visits to Uttar Pradesh, Belgaum and Bengaluru.
  • Further SPV member industry visits to Rajasthan, Haryana and Bengaluru.
Outcome

What is different now

  • An operational maize value addition cluster under the Dharani Maize Agro Federation.
  • Members with direct exposure to processing technology and standards in established units.
