The situation

What we found

  • Artisans were procuring raw material from long distances at high landing cost.
  • During season times they could not procure at a reasonable price, as agents acted as barriers to SHG members.
  • Products lacked the branding, packaging and market exposure to command better prices.
Our response

What we did

  • A full soft intervention programme: value addition awareness, trust and capacity building, exposure visits, design thinking, technology enhancement, brand building, digital awareness and financial literacy.
  • Set up a Common Facility Centre at Bagalkot.
  • Set up a raw material bank within the vicinity of the cluster.
Outcome

What is different now

  • Bulk procurement through the raw material bank substantially reduced landing cost for members.
  • Artisans gained direct market exposure through exhibitions and improved product presentation.
